Airturb joined industry leaders at Solar & Storage Live in Birmingham to explore the future of decentralized energy. From the growing link between energy and sovereignty to the importance of proven, scalable solutions, the event highlighted how the transition is shifting from ambition to real-world implementation.
It was a valuable opportunity not only to share our vision, along with some famously sweet Dutch stroopwafels, with hundreds of professionals dedicated to the energy transition, but also to gain insight into the evolving market landscape.
Ed Miliband’s call for Labour to “take the fight to those undermining net zero” should not fall on deaf ears. It reflects a broader reality: the energy transition is now about politics, economics, and security; it’s no longer just about climate targets or subsidies.
Energy independence and resilience have become central to geopolitics. For years, renewables were framed around subsidies and climate targets. The focus is now on how quickly decentralized energy solutions can be rolled out at scale. Businesses, policymakers, and investors aren’t asking if decentralised energy matters. They’re asking how fast we can get things up and running.
The industry is maturing. Real-world projects demonstrating reliability are winning over hype, emphasizing that the transition is becoming tangible infrastructure and solutions that work.
If the transition is going to succeed, it must be accessible at every level, from households to warehouses to industry. Solutions need to be scalable, practical, and fit different site sizes. The market opportunity lies in compact, modular systems that communities and businesses can own and operate confidently.
These themes underscore a transition driven by practical, real-world success and a focus on energy independence at every level.
